Frequently Asked Questions
There are a few common questions I have been asked about our portrait sessions so to save you a little bit of time here they are. Alternatively if you have other questions please use the contact form available through the menu above.
How long does the photo session last?
Most portrait sessions last between 45 minutes to an hour although I allow a extra time just incase the session runs a little longer. This can sometimes happen with younger children, bigger groups or if we’re having too good a time. For newborn and young babies I have a separate package which allows for 2 hours as the sessions last longer due to frequent breaks for rest, food etc.
When do you shoot?
I typically shoot on weekends but am available during the week. Photography depends on light and the best times are in the morning (9am), or later in the afternoon at 3.30pm and 5.30pm – daylight savings dependent.
Where are your sessions held?
To make you feel as comfortable as possible I hold your portrait session in the location of your choice, whether it be the local park, beach or your home. Keep in mind if your house is small or dark this may pose a few problems. Alternatively, I can recommend fantastic places to go if your stuck for ideas.
What happens if it’s raining?
As most of our sessions are based outside if it’s raining I generally reschedule the shoot. This also is applicable if anyone is feeling a bit under the weather as you generally don’t look your best when you don’t feel your best.
What should I expect at the session?
I like to keep the sessions as easy going and informal as possible. I do all I can to help you to be as natural as possible in front of the camera although I do understand that it’s not a natural thing to do. I help guide you to create the best possible images while having a bit of fun.
What do I wear?
I’m not going to say what you can and can’t wear but I do have a few suggestions to help. Plain coloured, classic clothes work best – busy patterns and wording on clothes are best avoided and will date quickly. If children or families are being photographed together, they don’t have to dress identically, we have no idea where the white shirt and jeans trend started, just don’t be afraid to experiment and bring a change of clothes if your unsure.
For newborn photography you need to be matching either in black, white or the same neutral colour. Your baby is usually naked or wrapped in plain cloths for the majority of the session.
Anything Else?
Don’t forget its meant to be fun!
