Our beautiful bride May and her adoring husband Trent were married earlier this year in their family Presbyterian church in Chatswood. There was so much love in this church there was trouble packing everyone in. May and Trent wanted the wedding to have as many personal touches as possible so all the decorations were made by Family and Friends, but I’ll let the photos and May tell you herself…

May & Trent’s Wedding Story
What’s your story? We met during 2nd year uni at a Christian Camp, I joined the group of guys where Trent was sitting who were debating a bible talk. The next day I found Trent (not just because he was oh so handsome) as I wanted to challenge him with some other points. He gently persuaded me to sit down with him and talk through my points, reading through the bible together. After 4 hours, we were still seated in the same spot, deep in conversation, and by then we both realised how well we got on! One week after camp when we were back at uni, Trent asked me out – but I said, “Not yet, let’s reconvene the discussion in a month” because we had just met and then a month later (after many many many conversations) we were officially a couple.
The Proposal In the morning, Trent turned up on my doorstep, flowers in hand and blindfolded me. We got into a taxi and I had no clue where we were going since we were swerving and speeding and stopping (normal taxi style of driving) and when we got out, it took a while to register, Trent had taken me back to the place he asked me out two and a half years ago (and I had said not yet!) so that he could ‘reclaim’ the ground a success as he got down on one knee to secure my hand in marriage!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? I always knew I wanted a very casual, simple theme. We had picked to hold our wedding in the church that we regularly attend. It had a small little chapel and a large old hall with wood floors which suited us well because we definitely didn’t want anything over the top. Instead, I wanted lots of little touches – like hand made decorations out of old romantic novels and lots of things (metal buckets and watering cans) with grosgrain ribbon around them. For colours, I wanted to have a colour scheme that wasn’t very common and I have always wanted yellow bridesmaid dresses – they are just so vibrant and happy looking. I also am a big fan of navy blue, stripes and polka dots, so blue was in. For my third colour, I scanned through pages and pages of www.stylemepretty.com, and finally I settled on brown as it would help to underpin the scheme with a more simple, rustic feel and it was also a combination I had not seen before.
Were there any surprises? Our groomsmen didn’t prepare their speeches! They had both traveled interstate to be at the wedding and I had sent them on so many errands right up to the last minute and so they ran out of time!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking down the aisle and not tripping on my 4 inch heels!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Sunny, delicious and fun.
What’s next for you as a couple? We just got a new car so we will be planning lots of road trips!
What are you looking forward to in the future? Continuing to share life together.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding?
Do something that suits your personality and taste, don’t feel pressured to conform to ‘traditions’. A wedding is a celebration of an exclusion union between two people, your family and friends are there as important witnesses and support, and at the end of the day, they probably don’t care whether or not you have those 150 embossed chocolate bonbonere! So don’t stress out over those little things, just enjoy the day, laugh at yourselves (because some things will go wrong no matter how much you plan) and have fun!
